The international MTB Cup Antwerpen with the UCI cat. 2 was held between cranes and docks at the seaport of Antwerpen in Belgium. The about 4 km long lap was quite fast, not really technical but you always need to push.
There was a strong field on the startline within last weekends U23-worldcup-winner Jens Schürmanns and his teammate Jeff Luyten. I took a good start and before going into a singletrail I went into the lead. I noticed that there was a small gap behind just the Belgian Jonas de Backer was on my wheel. So I kept up the pace trying to increase the gap to the tracker group. We both worked together for many laps. When I tried to push a bit more in laps eight and nine I could open a gap to de Backer. So after ten laps I could happily win my first UCI Elite race ahead of the Belgians Jonas de Backer an Jimmy Tielens.
